ROR is a unique nonprofit initiative that blends pediatric medical care with family reading sessions that can prove instrumental to a child's later academic growth. The program is especially focused on children under the age of 5. The first five years are some of the most important developmental periods in a young person’s life. A national organization, ROR reaches nearly 5 million children and families throughout the United States.
The ROR website provides families and medical professionals with a number of ideas for children’s books, including Richard Scarry’s Cars and Trucks from A to Z. Not only does the book help children between 6 months and 12 months of age begin processing alphabetical sounds, but it also has been made with a soft, cardboard design that can withstand a child’s various chewing tendencies.
Books for slightly older children include Polar Bear by Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle for 18-to-24-month-old children, and Margaret Wise Brown’s Goodnight Moon, an appropriate read for children between 2 years and 3 years of age.
