Supplier Diversity programs are generally a business strategy that ensures a diverse supplier base in the procurement of goods and services for any business or organization. Supplier Diversity emphasizes the creation of a diverse supply chain that ensures the inclusion of diverse groups in the procurement plans.
The idea and the process is also important in higher education. Metropolitan Community College-Kansas City understands the value of identifying diverse vendors and the value of maintaining good vendor relationships. As one of the country's premier urban-suburban community colleges, MCC strives to extend opportunities not only to students, but also to small, minority and women-owned businesses. This initiative benefits the economy and the communities we serve. Because MCC is an educational entity, the College works with Minority Business Entrepreneur (MBE) or a Woman Based Entrepreneur (WBE) with on-going workshops and outreach programs to educate businesses on how to secure contracts and learn business strategies.
MCC’s Chief of Staff Kathy Walter-Mack manages the College's supplier diversity program and Chris Kelly is the program coordinator.
