In an effort to get families with young children to read together, Reach Out & Read incorporates beginner’s books into the pediatric medical care process. It also allows pediatric patients to take books home after visits to the doctor’s office.
In 2006, Reach Out & Read launched a military initiative that specifically addressed the needs and concerns of families with members who are in active service with the United States Armed Forces. This initiative operates through key partnerships with other organizations that support military families, including the Sesame Workshop, Blue Star Families, ZERO TO THREE, United Through Reading, and the Military Child Education Coalition. In addition to providing reading materials on US military bases around the world, the military initiative of Reach Out & Read supports a variety of programs and resources that help families cope with complex issues.
